Kasteel Bruin

Kasteel Bruin (11%): a quadrupel ale from Belgium. A Quad is a very dark Ale style from Belgium, I bought this because I was intrigued by the high ABV.

  • Pours a completely black liquid.
  • Smells like licorice.
  • As expected has a strong anise/licorice flavor and ... not much else.
  • Good buzz.
  • Highly drinkable for ABV.

It's an interesting brew (especially for its extreme color) but lacks complexity.

  1. Lacks complexity? Licorice? Wow. You may have had a bottle that's gone off. Kasteel bruin is a highly complex and incredibly flavourful beer.

6 years in Belgium may have spoiled me. North American beer is pretty much rubbish compared to anything Belgium produces, aside from Stella (horrible embarrassment).

    my grade: A+
