Gavroche (8.5%): a strong ale from France. Made by Brasserie de Saint-Sylvestre in Northern France (3 Monts, Bière Nouvelle), Gavroche is an amber bière de garde (beer of keeping). This brew takes its name from the fictional character in the Victor Hugo novel 'Les Misérables'.

  • Pours a very nice pale amber liquid.
  • Has a strong grape flavor.
  • The complex flavor is woody, earthy and nutty.
  • Aftertaste is fairly sweet with notes of grapes and citrus.
  • Smooth buzz.
  • Label is stylish and quite distinctive.

Verdict: an original yet delicious strong ale. Highly recommended.
